Most of these refugees are Afghan and due to their economic and cultural poverty are very vulnerable to different disease in three field of orthopedic, cardiac and reconstructive. 2. United Nations Special Consultative Status with Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
Zanjireh Omid Institute has been selected as UN special consultative status by the economic and social council (ECOSOC) on May 1, 2014.
Economic and social council of United Nations coordinates the UN general assembly in achieving its goals and development of economic and social issues. This council was established in 1945 and its secretary is selected in an election for one year by its members.
NGOs who want to participate in official decision-making of United Nations should receive their special consultative status certification from ECOSOC. While at the beginning of ECOSOC activity it had just 41 NGO members now more than 2870 NGOs are members of ECOSOC. This increase shows that United Nations is eager to benefit from NGOs’ experiences. Non-governmental organizations should have a certain headquarter and at least 2 years should be passed from their establishment. They should also have a democratic method of decision-making and clear organizational structure. Zanjireh Omid Institute is now UN special consultative status with ECOSOC and will continue to improve its services based on the international standards.
